JESSICA in JAPAN

{January 28, 2008}   A Typical Day for Me…

Here’s an example of what I would do on a normal week day at the moment..

6.00am Wake up call from Ben No. 1

6.15am Wake up call from Ben No. 2

6.30am Wake up call from Ben No. 3 (no kidding…NOT a morning person)

6.30am – 7.30am shower / breakfast – rice and fried egg / hello to God / Bible reading, worship time / pack bag

7.30am walk to the station… say hello to the regulars that we normally meet along the way most mornings.

7.56am squash into train…study for todays tests… or pray for those around me

8.25am catch the subway..not so crowded unless its raining and then impossible to move.

8.40am walk to school

8.50am get to school and say hello to all the other early people

9.00am – 12.30pm Classes…writing / reading / listening / kanji and speaking practice

12.40pm catch the subway

1.00pm catch the train home

1.20pm walk home from the station

2.00pm LUNCH (hungry by then!) Rice, tofu and pickles

2.00pm – 3.00pm rest time…play board games / /email check or snooze… (or sometimes have a meeting for Media Team or with the missionary couple down the road).

3.00pm – 6.00pm Homework sheets…. study and try not to get too distracted….

6.00pm Dinner time – usually rice and some kind of meat or tofu

7.00pm study for tests….or some relax time if no tests :o ) watch some Japanese TV (crazy, funny weird shows! – especially when I’m guessing the meaning most of the time!) play guitar, take a walk and soak in the atmosphere, do the shopping (cheap meat after 8.00pm!)

10.00pm Bed…… and same again tomorrow!

SO that’s a normal weekday… though there’s lots of random meetings, social gatherings, and work that happens around that schedule…but it’s usually something different each week.

Good thing I like a routine huh?

{January 28, 2008}   In my heart

A song that has been constantly going through my head lately is this:

YOU SAID

You said, ask and you will receive

Whatever you need

You said, pray and I’ll hear from heaven

And I’ll heal your land

You said, your glory will fill the earth

Like waters the sea

You said, lift up your eyes

The harvest is here, The Kingdom is near

You said, Ask and I’ll give the nations to you

Oh Lord, that’s the cry of my heart

Distant shores and the islands will see

Your light as it rises on us……..

This is my prayer for Japan….’that the distant shores and the islands will see HIS light as it rises on us’…. that the Lord will ‘heal this land’ of all the hopelessness and godlessness. Because God says ‘ask and you will receive what ever you need!’ and i think that is amazing and encouraging to know and believe. The harvest is ripe in Japan and God is drawing the Japanese to Himself.

I love being a small part of God’s plan for Japan.

{January 24, 2008}   Only in Japan….

Guess what I saw today on the walk from school to the station?

A Yakult (yoghurt) delivery bike! (Very cute by the way – it only i had a picture!)

Not only can you get your newspaper, gasoline, kerosene, milk etc delivered, but now your morning bottle of Yakult. What more could you possibly desire?

{January 13, 2008}   Snow Walk

I love snow!!!

We’ve just taken a walk in the snow that is falling in Kusatsu – really really beautiful!

The only sad thing is that is probably wont settle on the ground because of the massive amounts of rain that have fallen in the past couple of days.

I definitely think winter is my favourite season…whatever part of the world I am living in….there’s something magical about the snow swirling around you as you stroll the streets in search for a good hot chocolate…
